An obscured-element error naturally suggests a popup covering the target. In a hidden window, waiting for painting can also stall. I separated diagnostics and input handling by the stage that was waiting, rather than removing protection whenever the same error label appeared.
Reading geometry does not make an immediate click valid
After scrolling or dialog layout, DOM geometry and compositor hit testing can briefly disagree. Page-operation repeatedly reads the target rectangle and checks painted-frame or bounded time-based stability. It does not simply sleep for a fixed delay and click the old coordinate.
Current code combines requestAnimationFrame with timer samples, separating two stable painted frames from a time-based geometry fallback and bounding the overall wait. Afterward it rechecks connection, signature, visibility and disabled state. Stable geometry cannot substitute for validation of the current target. The stages answer different questions even when both happen just before input.
Diagnostics retain the stage that stopped waiting
A timeout includes phase such as animation-frame-wait, visibility, focus, viewport, bounds and limited structural descriptions of target and blocker. That is more specific than an error name alone. It narrows the evidence instead of logging raw field input or the entire page body.
Hidden visibility alone does not identify every failure cause. A real overlay or changed document can still be responsible. Historical repair classification using this diagnostic does not mean automatic repair has been restored in the current product. This chapter reviews the diagnostic structure and current input checks, retaining the difference between evidence and an assumed root cause.
Test a site that commits its result inside a frame callback
Background-raf creates input and a button inside an owned iframe and puts the result update in the site's requestAnimationFrame callback. With the window hidden and throttling enabled, it checks native fill/click, output and exactly one commit. Repeated clicks are not used as a remedy for an unpainted result.
That is a controlled owned-page test design, not fresh measurement of every external site's hidden-window behavior. The historical version 0.1.150 audit retains hiddenFrameRaf regression success. I read that record and current source without claiming I launched the original application and reran it during this writing task.
A real overlay must continue to block input
The same test then adds a full overlay and expects ELEMENT_OBSCURED, with commits still one. This counterexample checks that the hidden-frame fix did not relax genuine occlusion protection. Success in the normal case alone cannot establish that protection survived.
Current hit testing follows actual elementFromPoint and shadow-tree results for bounded interior candidate points. An exposed part of a wide button can qualify even when its center has a sibling above it, but covered nodes are not forced visible or clicked through. Geometry, painting and input validity therefore remain separate checks rather than one broad bypass for background work.
Read input lifetime together with memory policy
The current driver separately adjusts frame throttling and emulated focus only during an input transaction, restoring the original setting afterward. A bounded observation exception also lets a dialog paint before restoring state. Treating the earlier document's always-throttled description as the complete current rule would omit these later changes.
The shared cache module implements no frame control; it tests declared protection and retained reading data. Convenient background work should preserve both failure-stage distinctions and genuine hit testing. The next account follows the narrower implementation question of restoring settings changed for an input transaction.
