Managing several websites produces repeated CSS and runtime files. Sharing them can simplify maintenance, but a repair on one site needs a known impact boundary. The original repair program considers NTFS hard links and chooses file replacement instead of editing the existing shared contents directly.
I compared that explanation with its actual writing function. It writes the transformed string to a neighboring temporary file and replaces the target path. The intended boundary is to change that path without directly changing the bytes retained through another link. Common presentation does not mean that every edit belongs on every website.
Distinguish a shared design rule from shared stored contents
Copies of a file in several folders differ from several paths referring to the same stored contents. Similar visible filenames can hide different change scopes. The historical hard-link note matters because a site-specific repair needs to understand that relationship before writing.
An intentional common design update can select several copies for synchronization. A project-specific wording or material change should preserve unrelated sites. I examine the canonical presentation rule separately from the storage relationship. Different folder names alone do not establish independent underlying contents.
Write new contents before replacing the selected path
The original function writes a string into a temporary path beside the target and uses os.replace to replace it. It changes the chosen path to a file containing the new text rather than editing the previous file’s bytes in place. This supports the documented intent to avoid directly mutating shared contents. It is a text-writing function, not a universal asset editor.
The surrounding repair also retains selected originals before writing transformed pages. Preservation and replacement serve different purposes. A replacement strategy may reduce exposure of an intermediate write, but incorrect transformed content can still be installed. Content validation and target-path validation need to accompany the writing choice.
Separate common asset synchronization from local settings
Shared asset synchronization moves the common CSS and runtime into each selected site’s shared directory. Values with project-specific evidence, such as retained contractor information, belong in that project’s configuration. Combining contacts and material routes into one universal file can erase the boundary of a local change.
After synchronization, compare contents to the master and check that local settings and working features remain. Matching filenames are less useful than actual bytes and references. Replacing a file does not establish that related HTML and cached responses read the same version. Public delivery needs a later, separately evidenced check.
The small write function still has execution conditions
The inspected function uses a fixed temporary filename. It does not solve collisions between concurrent writers targeting the same path. The original workflow proceeds sequentially, and that context matters. The phrase file replacement should not become a guarantee of safety under every concurrency model or storage system.
This story reads the historical source and its intended boundary. I did not create and compare a fresh pair of hard links on the current filesystem. Permissions, failure recovery, remaining temporary files and parallel work would require their own conditions and checks. Reviewed design and observed operational outcomes remain separate.
Leave an understandable account of the change boundary
A work record can retain the changed paths, preserved originals, common update targets and individually retained material. Altering every site after a request to repair one would miss the scope even if the process was fast. The maker should explain which parts are deliberately changed together and which remain separate.
The transferable lesson is not to copy one file command into every environment. It is to understand storage sharing, design a local change that avoids mutating shared bytes and check preservation of the other targets. More websites make the benefits of reuse and the responsibility for individual repair equally important.
