An unchanged appearance after a style edit often suggests caching. A different edited file or an updated address on only some pages can produce similar symptoms. I revisited historical versioning guidance and developed a small response-inspection module against this website.
Find the stylesheets referenced by the actual document
First establish whether the file open in the local editor is the file requested by the public document. Read stylesheet link addresses, queries and their order. Identical filenames in different folders cannot be matched reliably by name alone. The new module resolves relative references against the actual document address and retains their sequence.
It reads stylesheet links explicitly present in HTML. It is not a browser tool that also traces dynamically inserted styles and every CSS import. External references are identified separately instead of being followed automatically without review. Document references and the browser’s later execution remain distinct stages, making the remaining verification visible.
Compare response bytes with the selected local artifact
A successful response does not prove that it contains the intended file version. The new check reads status, CSS MIME and the hash of actual returned bytes, then compares them with a selected local output. I checked three stylesheets from both this site’s home and article index; the six responses matched their local artifacts at inspection time.
Matching hashes establish delivery of those bytes, not the final rendered appearance. Cascade priority, media queries, fonts, assets and script-modified classes can still affect the result. A mismatch instead directs attention toward output selection and uploaded version before further visual editing. The response check provides a basis for the next investigation rather than certifying the entire interface.

Change versioned references consistently
Historical guidance calls for changing a query version and updating its references across relevant pages. My current read found thirty-five original HTML files, with thirty-three referencing that theme. I counted the actual reference scope instead of treating the historical page count as the count of every file.
A changed query or filename creates a different resource address, but the cache configuration’s handling of that distinction still matters. Subpages retaining an old reference can preserve the symptom. Even when filenames are connected to content or build hashes, the final HTML must point at the new artifact. Updating the file and updating the document’s reference are related but separate changes.
Use cache headers as evidence rather than a visual verdict
Cache-Control, ETag, Age and edge-cache status help interpret a response and the layer that supplied it. They do not alone reveal which file an existing browser used for its visible page. The function records those values without inventing a single normal-versus-broken score from them.
The inspection uses a separate session without authentication headers and does not automatically follow redirect responses. External references and changed destinations require review before fetching. Clearing caches or redeploying operating assets is outside this read-only module. Reading current evidence and changing operating state remain distinct actions.
Keep delivered-file checks separate from rendered review
Seven checks establish the bytes and MIME of six CSS responses plus reference order and external-origin handling. They do not manipulate a new browser cache or inspect computed styles. The evidence retains the scope available while existing Studio work is preserved. A file match is not relabeled as completed screen review.
An actual integration should identify the exact page and viewport showing the symptom, then connect its references, response and computed styles. Distinguish an old resource from a new resource overridden by another rule before changing the design. I want this small tool to narrow the next check rather than let the word cache conceal every possible cause.
